Hollywood Heights is known for its unique architecture. One of the most notable homes is the Samuel Freeman House, one of Frank Lloyd Wright’s homes. It was built using textile blocks.
Did you know that Hollywood Heights has an elevator for residents to reach their homes?
Heights is in the name and it’s located in the Hollywood Hills. It makes sense that homes located in Hollywood Heights are on steep hills. These hills weren’t necessarily suited for cars traveling up and down them. Some residents found it difficult to access their homes. This problem was solved with the help of staircases and what is known as the High Tower elevator.
This five-story elevator was designed by Carl Kay in 1920. It resembles a campanile, which is an Italian bell tower found in Bologna, Italy. If you’re not a resident, the elevator is unfortunately off limits. There is, however, a public staircase next to the tower for those who wish to take a look at the homes and explore.
