Did you know that the world’s first LGBT pride parade was held in 1970?
The first ever LGBT pride parade was held in Hollywood on June 28, 1970. It’s purpose was to help commemorate the first anniversary of the Stonewall Riots of 1969 as well as allow those who identified as LGBT to celebrate themselves with like-minded people. It is put on every year by Christopher Street West, a nonprofit organization that advocates for gay rights.
After West Hollywood was incorporated in 1984, the parade and festival was moved to WeHo. The festival and parade occur during the second week of June and it includes fun performances, a block party, and a place for self-expression and authenticity.
